The Full Story
Tuscaloosa Psychological Services was founded in 2022 to provided psychological assessment to the Tuscaloosa county and region. The founders recognized that there were limited local options available and the options that were available often had long wait list. The initial goal of the organization is to increase access to psychological assessment and reduce wait times for our community.
Through individually tailored assessments and interventions, we help individuals attain diagnostic clarity, a greater understanding of self, and the means to effectively cope with life’s problems and to live a meaningful life.
Who We Are
Dr. Mitch Beavers and Dr. Michelle Michaels met while working as clinical psychologists at the nearby state university. It became apparent to them that there were few available local resources for mental health care, particularly related to psychological assessment.
Tuscaloosa Psychological Services was formed by Dr. Mitch Beavers and Dr. Michelle Michaels, in part, to address the dearth of options available for mental health care.
Dr. Mitch Beavers, PhD
Dr. Mitch Beavers completed his APA accredited pre-doctoral internship at the Vanderbilt-Veterans Affairs Consortium. Dr. Beavers was awarded his doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Tennessee State University. He was licensed by the state of Alabama to practice as a psychologist in 2018. Dr. Beavers has worked as a Staff Psychologist at the University of Alabama Counseling Center since 2017.
Dr. Michelle Michaels PsyD
Dr. Michelle Michaels moved to Tuscaloosa for her APA-accredited pre-doctoral internship at the Tuscaloosa Veterans Affairs Medical Center. She received her doctorate from William James College in Boston and is a licensed psychologist in the state of Alabama. She has worked as a Staff Psychologist at the University of Alabama and currently works at the Tuscaloosa VA. Dr. Michaels also has training and experience administering assessments and psychotherapy in Spanish.
