How it started
Tuscaloosa Psychological Services was founded in 2022 to provided psychological assessment to the Tuscaloosa county and region. The founders recognized that there were limited local options available and the options that were available often had a long wait list. The initial goal of the organization is to increase access to psychological assessment and reduce wait times for our community.
Through individually tailored assessments and interventions, we help individuals attain diagnostic clarity, a greater understanding of self, and the means to effectively cope with life’s problems and to live a meaningful life.
Approach to Therapy
Dr. Michaels believes in a collaborative and active approach to therapy. She works to help clients address a variety of conditions and improve their overall quality of life. She practices humanistic and evidence-based approaches, and she is committed to maintaining cultural humility and openness to everyone's experiences.
"What's really important to me is that therapy and mental health not be seen as mysteries. I believe in having an ongoing conversation about how therapy works, what we're doing in therapy, and why we're doing it."
